Operation Manager for a leading player in the European transport and logistics market - based in or near Vienna

Our client is a large haulage contractor with more than 35 years’ experience on the roads of Europe. Having its headquarter in Denmark, the company provides its customers with innovative solutions and competitive haulage in terms of price and quality as well as service. The company is in constant development, and during the recent years, the Danish owners have expanded the business with the acquisition of two major European haulage companies. Therefore, one of the challenges of this important position is to ensure the integration of these two companies in terms of coordination and optimization of the total workforce.

Your main responsibilities

We are looking for an Operation Manager to take the overall responsibility for the production of transport services in all of Europe. With a vehicle fleet of 400 trucks altogether, this is a challenging and comprehensive role containing elements of management and coordination, business development and the creation of cultural consistency and cooperation. Furthermore, the attraction and retention of good drivers is a huge challenge in the European transport business in general and this will be a one of the major tasks in this role – to always ensure and develop a sufficient and competent workforce.

Reporting to the headquarter in Denmark, you will be responsible for the following working areas:

  • Logistics and coordination of the haulage, including systematic structuring and streamlining of operational patterns in the units of Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania and the Czech Republic
  • Responsible for the fleet of vehicles including appropriate registrations
  • IT and general digitalisation of the operational structures and processes
  • Recruitment and retention of drivers in all countries
  • Coordination and appropriate composition of drivers from various countries taking into account the language and culture related differences
  • Cross-cultural management and coaching of dispatchers, local hauliers and drivers
  • Ensuring the best possible conditions for the efficiency of the dispatchers

Since Vienna is an important transport hub, it is desirable that you are located in or near Vienna. You can expect travel activities of around 3-4 days a week. When you are not travelling, you will be working from your home office or from a suitable office space in the Vienna area.

Your professional and personal qualifications

Being the ideal candidate, we presume that you possess the following professional qualifications:

  • Experience in transport and logistics – possibly from a production with similar challenges
  • Strong business acumen and financial understandig
  • Experience working in cross-cultural contexts
  • A good flair for IT

Your educational background is not essential. It is your professional experience that counts. However, we imagine a person with a technical background such as production or logistics engineer combined with commercial and management experience - or a commercially educated person with technical and managerial experience. The job requires that you are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
